Jack Nicklaus nearly won the U.S. Open as a 20-year-old amateur, playing alongside Ben Hogan?

At the 1960 U.S. Open at Cherry Hills, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion Jack Nicklaus played the final 36 holes, both on the Saturday, with Ben Hogan. Nicklaus finished second on 282, just two shots behind Arnold Palmer, who famously came from seven shots back in the final round. It was the best finish by an amateur at the U.S. Open in 27 years. On that one day, three generations of golf were together in contention: Hogan, Palmer and the young Nicklaus.
